Another SHTF Vehicle...........
Yep, got another one as a backup. This 1979 GMC Jimmy (High Sierra) is my daily driver. I sold my other car and currently have no loan whatsoever. So for those who are critical about gas mileage, keep in mind I don't pay Wells Fargo anything !!!
HA ! ........put that one in your pipe and smoke it. As for those smarter than me with a car or truck that's paid for then kudos to you, I'm now part of da club ! http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q...4/PICT1029.jpg :cooler: |
Re: Another SHTF Vehicle...........
.......and for the other side (oh, I put those tires on but the 4" lift came with the purchase).

Re: Another SHTF Vehicle...........

Re: Another SHTF Vehicle...........
TAD,
You need to add a pickup truck to haul loads that won't fit in the back of the Blazer. Trust me. I've already used mine a bunch of times last summer. Still love my Blazer as the daily driver though. Love the trucks. And yeah, we only pay cash for vehicles. We have a friend that buys his vehicles on his credit card (no more than $2000). Runs them till they drop, then does it again. He pays the card off immediately. But it does give him some leeway at auto auctions, etc. Even when it was the wife's brand new Subie five years ago. Paid cash. No payments. Just a title. Pay the insurance, keep up with the maintenance and keep her full of fuel. That's all we do. Now, make sure you've got some fuel stored away. Now that you're not making that monthly payment, you will find a lot of OTHER uses for that money. LOVE the new truck. How does she run? |

Truck runs great after I did a carb tune-up. It's still a bit lean and need to look at upsizing the jets on the edlebrock carb. I bought a spare carb just like it for a backup. Looks are deceiving from the pics and got a great deal because the dash was torn apart (no gauges / intruments and no vents). Paid $2400 cash..........and have a few little things to fix here and there. |

Re: Another SHTF Vehicle...........
nice GO vehicles there AD
when TSHTF and it's GO TIME, i'd rather have " go anywhere " mobility than worry about a few extra mpg i'm assuming you already have alternative routes mapped out away from the main roads http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog....raffic_jam.jpg |
Re: Another SHTF Vehicle...........
Argent .. you've as much as painted a bullseye on your front door parking those in the driveway. It pretty much shouts out that a prepper lives there.

Re: Another SHTF Vehicle...........
It's called a New WORLD Order... where are the Out-Bugs going to go to get away from TPTB?
If TSHTF in earnest I don't need to go anywhere my feet can't take me. I have what I need to survive right where I'm at. PS - I have thought about getting an electric ATV or Vectrix scooter. |

Re: Another SHTF Vehicle...........
Here's another pic with the tires that came on this beast (35" street type BFG all-terrains). The first photos show 38" Super Swamper TSL's. Oh and no the top of the front grille does not 'swirl' like that - no defect, just me getting crazy with editing trying to 'blurr' the license plate.

Don't buy the dash from LMC trucks. They are now ONLY selling cheap chinese knock offs that don't fit at all. You can still get them from Chevy dealer. NOT CHEAP at six bills, but definitely OEM. Comes in the box. Now if THAT'S too much, here's a guy that has two of them. The only problem is that he's in GA and you're in TX and he says 'pickup only'. BUT if you paid UPS to fill out the pickup sheet and then had them pick up both boxes YOU MIGHT get two for less than the price of one. http://www.steelsoldiers.com/vbclass...?do=ad&id=3223 If you only need ONE, I'd consider springing for the second one. We could just have UPS fill out TWO way bills. One to you, one to me. Here's a couple of pix of a Blazer with it's top removed for painting. GREEN of course... Attachment 87523 Attachment 87524 |

Yeah and in TEXAS you are not even a MAN without at least ONE 4x4 in your driveway.
If you don't have a large, fire breathing 4x4 in your driveway and you aren't a man, what are you? A METROSEXUAL... Attachment 87526 |

Wallew - As for the 'actual' dash pad, it came with one in excellent shape and almost new. I've already purchased guages and have them installed and upgraded to an in-dash stock factory Tach ! The speedo still needs to be hooked up but the tach works great. Originally this Jimmy had a stock vacuum cruise control which I'm not fond of at all. Items that still require re-assembly and hook-up are the A/C vents & tubes, air and heater controls, glove box, dash trim, instrument panel bezel, and a few other details on the interior. This whole project has taken a good bulk of my free time over this past month but it's very worthwhile considering my overall low costs into this truck. I like your paintwork photos - that is awesome !!! :coolbeer: |
